Sevalaya organized a Legal Awareness camp for the Kurumba tribal people, Gudalur

Sevalaya organized a Legal Awareness Camp with District Legal Services Authority, on 16th November
2022. More than 100 people belonging to Kurumba tribes participated and gave petitions appealing for
the provision of basic amenities like water supply, proper roads, houses, community certificates, etc. Dr
P Murugan Chairman/ District Judge, District Legal Affairs Commission, Nilgiris District, C Sridhar
Secretary/ Associate Judge, District Legal Affairs Commission, Nilgiris District, and D Sivakumar Circle
Legal Affairs Committee, Bandallur participated and spoke to the Kurumba tribals residing at Koovamula
village.

P Murugan said that amongst tribals there is not much awareness about the illegality of child marriage.
He added that parents should ensure that their children do not get addicted to narcotics as it leads to
several health issues including kidney failure.V Muralidharan, Founder of Sevalaya participated in the
function and spoke about the help being extended by Sevalaya since the past few years. Sevalaya has
started tution centres at Koovamula, Kallichal, Bennai to motivate children to take interest in studies
and make them attend school regularly. Tution centres which were initiated by Sevalaya play a huge role
by helping children learn new skills and creating an interest to learn.

90 petitions were hand overed to the Judges and advocates in the camp. District Legal Services Authority
distributed blankets, 10 Provison kits(including rice), and 9 Plastic buckets. Sevalaya donated 20
provision kits which included Rice, Rava, Cereals etc to the tribal people of Koovamula.

Earlier D Sivakumar Circle Legal Affairs Committee, Bandallur welcomed the gathering and R Kumar
Tution centre teacher, Koovamula proposed the vote of thanks.
